to my dismay, it requires a 250w power supply. I did some checking on my computer and it's only got a 185w supply in it according to the tech sheet online.

My question is, if I install the GF4 in my computer anyway (which meets the requirements except for the power supply) will it cause any damage to any of my other components, itself, or not even come on?

My guess is it will work. IIRC, the time that it needs the most power is on start up. If you get the thing to start up it should run no troubles.
Do all GF 4's have fans on them? If it doesn't have a fan you should be OK.

My first suggestion is, to put a 300 or 350W power supply in. It's almost as easy as installing RAM.
My next suggestion is, don't just buy a power supply. Buy a power supply in a new case. That way you'll get a new case too for maybe $5 more.

There's my way and then there's the wrong way.

You will probably blow the power supply if you hook up the G4. Just buy a new power supply. It's no big deal, i would recommend atleast a 350w.

Alrighty then. Thanks. http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif Problem is, it's an HP computer (**** good cept for this power supply thing) and the Power supply is made.... oddly. It's got a fan on the bottom of it, and it's rather small.....

Time to call up HP....

I highly doubt it's 185 watts. I had a 300 watt power supply that said something like "165 total watt outage" or something like that, but it was infact 300 watts.

I just don't see how a modern PC can run on 185 watts.

Emon, this is the spec sheet I got it from:

http://www.hp.com/cposupport/personal_computing/support_doc/bph06464.html#P211_2849

How would I find out the actual wattage? Buubox had doubts about it being 185w too lastnight...

This might have something to do with it:

<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">
System powerback to table of contents

AC input

o 185W max
o Input frequency: 43/66 Hz
o Voltage: 120V - 230V
o Maximum output wattage: 124W or 149W
</font>

And what about that?

I dunno, but seeing as it's under input, it's probably different... I don't know too much about electronics, I'll ask my dad, he does.

Also, how'd you find out it was 300w instead of what it "said"??

The box as opposed to the label on the PS itself.
