*sigh*. I had a rather unpleasant experience today; I turn on my computer, attempt to select Win2K at the boot menu...and find out that the registry hive is corrputed. Of course, I didn't know this when I first saw the error, so I proceed to spend two or so hours figuring out what the problem is, asking various people in #massassi and #cpp, using my kak-forbidden WinXP partition. Finally, I google it and find the right solution. Then, I spend another two hours trying to get an operable boot disk so I can repair the hive registry. After going through various operating systems, I finally resort to a Win98 boot disk, and wait ANOTHER hour for the Win2K setup CD to finish copying all of the necessary files for the repair console. That having been done, and the whole ordeal finished, I find out that all of my drivers, Service Packs, and patches that I've installed in the past 6 months have been completely wiped out, thus forcing me to pledge another 5 hours of my valuable time tracking down and reinstalling these items. Much to my dismay, there is no System Restore on Win2K, so I'm stuck doing this the hard way. I never did figure out why the hive registry decided to overload itself spontaneously. I know it wasn't one of the programs I downloaded, and it worked fine before...*gasp* I downloaded and installed some random thing from Windows Update...

Thanks for listening to my little rant; it's late now, I'm extremely irritated, and will retire for the night.
...and by the way, I'm switching to *nix as soon as I get the chance. Win2K has never failed me before, but even the mighty have to fall eventually.
