ok, I went into the command line and typed that in and it worked, thanks.
However, when I try to start ipconfig it blinks into existence and out just as fast. How can I stop this?

From the run selection - type 'cmd'. This will open a command prompt first, now type 'ipconfig' for the details.

Happens to me to when I try to run some commands through the run menu, I'm not sure why it happens. Just type cmd, and then type it into the console, and everybodies happy.
Another way: Right click on your connection icon on the taskbar (assuming you turned that on)->select status->Details tab. The IP marked "Client IP" is yours.

Oh wait, found it in the Network Connections. Are yours on the taskbar area or on in the network connections? If it's on the taskbar how can I activate it?

Make sure what's glowing blue is checked. This can be accessed through right-clicking on your Local Area Network (or if you have renamed it to something else) connection and selecting properties.
