View Full Version : Transparent image backgrounds in PSP
I'm trying to use Paint Shop Pro 7 to create a graphic for. I want the area around the image's shape to be transparent, so that when it's added to my site website, the main page background will be visible around the image. I made the image, and copied/pasted it as a transparent selection onto a new image with a transparent back. But now when I put it on my site, the image shape has a white box around it, all within the area that SHOULD have been tranparent. If anyone can understand what I just wrote, and knows how to do this, please let me know. Thanks,

You have to save a .gif.
Click on Colors > Set Palette Transparency
A dialog box will come up stating that you'll have to merge all layers into one. Click OK.
Make sure in Reduction Method, in the next dialog box, that Nearest Color is selected.
In the next dialog box make sure you select Set the transparency value to palette entry. Hover your cursor over the color you want to be transparent and click.
When you're done with the image save as .gif.
You will notice that the transparent part will not go transparent right away. When you apply the image to the web page you will see the transparency.
If you need more help with that, e-mail me at darthevad@rogers.com

Another way, if you're using PSP7>, is to use File>Export>gif optimiser or png optimiser.
