View Full Version : NTFS repair utility?
I need to repair an NTFS parition, outside of Windows, as in a bootable utility. CHKDSK is utter **** and was unable to repair the problem. How might I do this?

How broken is the partition? If it's just a boot record problem, use the Recovery Console off the OS cd and run "fixmbr". If it's anything more serious, I would suggest making it a slave drive, using a data recovery program, and reformat/repartition.
More information would be nice.
Not sure how broken it is. Win 2K says it's critical, and it sometimes gives an error about an unrecognizable boot device. I know about FIXMBR and FIXBOOT, but I have yet to use them. I tried transferring the drive to another system, only to realize that machine and no others in the house support the ATA133 of the corrupt drive.
My dad has a lot of important data on the drive, so repartioning isn't such a hot idea.
I also tried installing 2K over the top, but it said the drive was corrupt.
But you know what the really dumb thing is? It's just some corrupt temp files. Temp files. And Windows is too dumb to delete them or block off that section of the drive. http://forums.massassi.net/html/mad.gif
