View Full Version : sound
hey, i'm thinking about getting new speakers/headphones for my new laptop. since massassi forums seem to be relatively active i thought i'd ask you guys what you'd recommend. the 2.1 configuration seems to be what i'm going for, but headphones might do the trick just as well. i'm not really interested in surround-sound-5.1-gaming-extreme-more-than-i-can-afford speakers. just something that plays music really well. i'm looking to turn my laptop into my stereo. that way i can consolidate all my electronic needs onto one machine.

that's an understatement, lol.
Do they make laptop soundcards? I've never thought about it and now that it's mentioned I really have no clue. A Creative Extigy would probably be the way to go, for 24bit sound, EAX and all those nice features.

Sennheiser makes great low-end and high-end headphones. If you're not going for very high-end headphones, go for the Sennheiser HD202, they're around $35 and great.

Yes, there is sound-cards for laptops. Several of my mates run studios from their laptops, with very very high-end soundcards with breakout boxes. That doesn't mean there's the selection of desktop sound-cards though, but there are options.
As for headphones, I'm using Koss UR:20's. Cheap ($20), reliable, and decent sound. One thing is that they are kind of boomy on 200-1200hz. So if you like alot of bass, they may end up causing slightly more ear-fatigue than you're willing to put up with. But honestly, you should be taking hourly breaks when using any pair of headphones (for about 10 minutes) to decrease ear-fatigue and permanent damage.
