Hi all, was juz wondering how u ppl overclock ur cpu to higher speeds? (Refering to PIII and P4)

Ive got a 386sx running at 2.7 ghz. The heat from it can melt titanium.

Um... to start, what exactly are you running?

specs: PIII 450
192Mb 100MHZ SDRAM
Riva TNT 16MB SGRAM
Creative 5.1
8Gb HDD ATA33
32X Cdrom
Msi 440bx mobo

Urmm, that's abt all i can think of for now.. actually hope to overclock this rig to abt 550Mhz, and hopefully(If Possible) to overclock the VGA as well...

I think by "juz" he meant just, not ******.. just for the people that haven't figured it out.

I'm not sure how much of an improvement you'd see with overclocking it to 550 Mhz.. If you have any free money floating around, I think an proc upgrade would be best.

hmm.. Maybe I just saw your video card.. Does JO run on a 16mb video card? I don't have the min requirements readily available.. You might want to look into a new video card, there are some pretty cheap 64 mb ones out there, and you'd see a vast improvement.

JO will run on a 8MB video card. Not fast at all, but it WILL run it. I believe it would be better if you just went and got a new video card/processor. Any sort of overclocking won't do much for that old of a system.

yep, my vga is 16mb no doubt abt that, however i disagree that jo will run on 8mb, coz it is simply very choppy when u enter the menu, let alone the game play. as for my cpu, my theory is simple, if you can get more juice out, y not? http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif

Well, if it says 8 Mb on the specs, it will run on an 8 mb card.. I would just highly not reccomend it.. http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif

Yeah, I agree with Matty, get a better video card, followed by a better proc. Athlon's are pretty cheap...

Assuming you're on a budget, you don't need some fancy video card, unless you're just going to stick it in there, then put it in a better rig. Just go with a cheap 64 Mb card, or even a 32 if you don't have much to spend, then go for a new proc. Maybe something around 1 Ghz? From pricewatch:
$38 - Duron 1GHz. Pretty cheap for more than a 2x speed increase...

You may be able to overclock depending on your mobo. But I recommend getting that TNT working alittle harder. Without extra cooling you should be able to grab a couple of extra FPS.

I recommend this program since I am not sure how much you know about your rigistry.

Pfft. I overclocked a 2.66 Ghz computer to 10.52 Terahertz. Easy as pie.

Of course, it ended up blowing up half of New Mexico.. which is why I now go under the name Todd Todderson, and live in Maryland.
