View Full Version : Problems with my Dell Dimension Desktop 8100
Recently I have been having troubles with my Dell Desktop. The system came with Windows ME, but that was crash happy. I upgraded to WINXP, the computer met the minimum requirements as well. The system ran well for a while then it started causing problems. So I did my regular reformat and it got rid of the minor problems. Then recently the system started slowing down alot. IE would take forever to load and the computer was becoming really sluggish. Then one day the computer beeped and then i got a different BSOD. There was alot of weird code on the screen, and at the bottom it said "Beginning Physical Memory Dump" now it doesnt turn on at all.
Help me!

Physical memory dump... Wouldn't that refer to the RAM? If you have a different stick of RAM or two, try throwing those in. (Make sure you take ALL the old ones out.)
That's what I would try, not sure if that would do it though.

When you say it doesn't turn on at all, do you mean that when you hit the power switch there is no indication of power or it gets to a certain point in the boot sequence and stops working?

Beginning Physical Memory dump is a Windows 2K/XP feature, that allows some people to figure out what happened and why the crash happened. You wouldn't be able to decipher much out of it though. It basically just 'dumps' everything that is in RAM/virtual memory onto the hard drive in a file, for examination later. It has no other effect.

Really? I've only gotten it a few times, so I assumed it just cleared my RAM because it was being stupid, which wouldn't suprise me. Would it suprise you? I think not.

Well, your ram DOES get cleared, but not because of that error message. It gets cleared when it reboots the system.

anyways back to helping MBeggar, i would try a bios update before anything else, as i was having the same problem with my dell laptop and that fixed it. you are still probably going to have to reformat to get it to boot up again though... if all that doesn't work then i would try some other ram as happydud suggested.

if i was me i would not say such things

A bios update won't require a reformat, unless it's such a serious fix that it affects the model of the chipset, etc.
