Play DVD's from my computer on a TV?
My graphics card has TV-Out but according to the manual its "S-Video out" My TV does not support S-Video input so what do I need to play DVD's (sound and picture) through my computers DVD player on my tv, i'm guessing I need some sort of converter cable but what about sound? the graphics card came with a few leads (One that will plug into sound ports) Thanks for any help.

Your video card should have come with an s-video to composite adapter. and you will need a miniplug (headphone plug looking thing) to rca jacks converter for the audio. you should be able to get the audio adapter at radio shack or some place like that, and if you can't find the video adapter email me at catherder454@softhome.net and i will hook you up with one. Also you will probably need to configure your card to output to the tv out and tell it to use composite out instead of s-video. if you have an ATI or NVidia card, let me know and i will tell you how to set it up on those cards.

i didn't see the adapter you need on that site, what kind of connections are there on your tv?

also is the s-video plug a 4-pin connector or a 7-pin?

If your DVD drive is like most, it won't work with the TV out enabled anyway. So unless you want to get down and dirty and hack the protection, your in trouble.

That's weird, mine came with an S-Video to RCA adapter... which manufacturer?

Crap, are you serious? Grr, know of any DVD drives the will allow it? Or any sites I could look at for further info? Was hoping to tv-out DVDs onto my 68cm flat screen tv with my new computer.

Really? That sucks! Would ripping the dvd to the hard drive and playing it from there work?

My Geforce 3 is made by Leadtek, and i'm pretty sure I dont have any cables that can connect to my TV, my TV is old it only has the standard RCA connector. Nothing else.

My friend has a bunch of episodes of MST3k ripped to his laptop (more legal than other shows, he has episodes not in syndication or on DVD), and we could watch them through his TV.
So if you had to, ripping it would work.

I don't have any problems at all playing DVD's on my DVD drive through to the TV-out using PowerDVD. I've got a Pioneer DVD CDRW combo drive and a Geforce 4 Ti4200 video card. The nVidia driver is set to 'clone' mode so the TV-out is always on.

I even ran some cables (composite video and L/R audio) under the house from the study where the computer is, to the lounge room and is plugged into the AV receiver. http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif

I'm now adding a TV-tuner card so I can record TV to the hard drive. The card even comes with a remote, so all I have to do is run another cable under the house and mount the sensor near the TV. The remote will then control the TV-tuner card direct from the lounge room. Using uIce you can even use the remote to control other players (PowerDVD, Mediaplayer, Winamp etc) http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif

Most of the newer dvd drives will detect TV out enabled on most tv out compatible cards, except for the old rusty voodoos. I know for a fact mine won't. PowerDVD gives me an error saying that the DVD drive refuses to start playback until TV out is disabled.

Sounds like a macrovision problem. Here's a way around it. (http://forum.digital-digest.com/archive/topic/5041-1.html)

Apparently this program: http://tvtool.info/index_e.htm helps allow tv-out as well for many video cards.

the "standard rca connector" is it yellow?

you may only have a coaxial connection on your tv, if that is the case you would have to run it through your vcr or get an rf modulator. if you run it through a vcr you will have to deal with macrovision.

I think it'll be easier to get a PCI graphics card and just play them on another monitor http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif If I were to do that would something like a Voodoo3 be powerful enough or would it be better spend £40 and get a Geforce 4 MX?
