RAM question

So, November 1st I'm picking up a PIV 2.6GHz and an ASUS P4PE-X.
I am also getting 2 512MB sticks of DDR RAM.

The question,
OEM or brand name?
It's only about $75 differnece which I may be willing to cough up.

Brand name. No doubt, no question.


You can usualy tell when someone is running cheap memory. They get lots of memory errors/crashes/freezes/etc. Good memory is good. Better memory is better. Get the best you can afford.

I can get Crucial for $148 or OEM for $126.
I'll go with the crucial for the extra $50 (for 2).

OEM just means Original Equipment Manufacturer, it doesn't have any useless manuals, and sometimes doesn't have very useful warrenties. So you could still get Crucial OEM, if you can find it.

The only reason to buy OEM RAM is if you're worried about the warranty (and even then I think most companies will back OEM products), it's not like the module is going to be any different. I always buy OEM stuff when I can.

Yeah, a good brand name is important (corsair and crucial come to mind), but don't be afraid to buy from cheaper brands like Kingston.
