I'm hunting for a laptop in the $1000-2000 range. (Hopefully towards the lower end? Unless it is an awesome deal, I probably want to stay at $1600 or less)

I've been looking for custom laptop places, such as Dell, that allow you to configure the laptop to your liking.

Anyway, this is what I'd like to have:

Processor: Not a big concern, but something 2.6ghz or greater. I don't care what model except no durons/celerons.

RAM: Perferrably a gig, but if unavailable, then 1 stick of 512 so I can upgrade to 1 gig later if need be.

Video Card: Radeon chipset. Doesn't really matter what type, although the faster the better!

Sound chipset: Something that works. Don't care. Decent speakers would be nice though, but I'm not really worried about them.

Screen size: 14-15 is awesome for me. Anything in that range works fine. Widescreen is a bonus, but I don't need it. I do want something that has 1280x1024 res though (exceptions can be made for widescreens http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif).

CD Drive: Perferrably a DVD/CD drive, and it doesnt have to be a burner. If it has a CD-Burner, great. I really don't need a dvd burner, though. I don't care if it is hard-mount, or removable. Also, speed is not a big issue. But I do want it on the laptop itself, no docking carp. I'm not looking for an ultrathin here.

Weight: Unimportant

Mouse: Perferrably a eraserhead. If it has multiple types, that's fine, but I really like eraserheads.

Batteries: One battery, and I don't give a darn how long it lasts, as long as it lasts longer than an hour and a half.

Hard drive: 60GB or larger. The larger, the better. 2 hard drives and I love you for life. (I know, I', dreaming) I must have at least a 60GB though.

No need for wireless internet, although support for 802.11G/B will be welcomed. I won't pay extra for it though.

Ethernet: 10/100MBPS. Required. If it doesn't have it, I don't want it.

OS: Perferrably none, although if I must pick one, Win2k or XP Professional. If it has WinME, I will burn you to hell and back.

USB: Must have 2 USB 2.0 ports on it. Don't care where they are located, just have to have them on there somewhere.

Ports: I want a keyboard/mouse port, but not required. Must have headphone/mic. (Do they come without them anymore?!) Must have VGA out. VIVO ports are welcome, but not required. Anything beyond that is excess, and will only take it if it is free. I do not want port replicators, either.

PCMCIA: One type II, please? Not important, but I'd like one at least, just in case.

Don't need a carry-bag, I have one. I do need the AC Adapter though. No car adapter, I have a DC->AC already.

I believe that covers everything. If you know of any companies or businesses that offer cheap laptops with configurations similar to these guidelines, lemme know!

Some side notes: Warranty doesn't matter much, but one year would be helpful. I won't pay for more. Accessories such as plastic case mods I don't care for, unless they look DAMN cool and are really cheap. Not influenced.

Oh, and it cannot be a Mac. Thanks http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif
