Can't. It'll tell you that there was a problem with the CD Key and that you should contact MS for help.
There is no by-passing.
Although as far as I know you can update everything except the service packs.

Hypothetically speaking, this person would've been better off buying Win2k instead. By the time you turn off all of the bloat in XP, 2k is essentially what you have.
