Can someone help me. My friend has a problem with his new video card. When he tries to run games the screen is all distorted and jumbled up, and has a bunch of different colors on it. His old video card was fine, but his new one is not. He thought it was defective and had a new one sent to his home, but the new one was the same way. He has the newest drivers for his video card (Geforce FX 5700). He's tried a bunch of games and they all give him the same problem, so if anyone could help it'd be great.

His uncle has the same graphics card and Farcry works fine for him, and they went over there and set it up for him. This makes it seem like it could be a problem with some of his other computer componets, but it worked fine with his other video card and the same everything else.

What about his monitor drivers? If his monitor isn't plug-and-play, Windows could be trying to use screen resolutions his monitor doesn't support.

I take it you checked on the net to ensure you have the latest drivers?
If so, then when a new video card gives you that kind of trouble, it generally means its a dud, take it back and swap it for a new one.

He's already done that, what are the chances he'd get two bad ones?

Did he uninstall the old drivers before installing the new card?

That's most likely it, change the monitor for plug and play or whatever it's set at to Super VGA (1024x768) in the display control panel. That'll make everything use a 60hz refresh rate and lower res. Hope that works.
