Yeah, so already a problem with the laptop I got yesterday. Windows can't seem to properly load the drivers anymore, stating that the device is missing. Funnily, booting into Linux shows me that there is absolutely no problem with the drive whatsoever, as I was able to mount DVDs, DVD-RWs and CDs. Windows reports the drive as a "HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4241N." I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, but that hasn't done anything useful http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif I can't seem to find any newer drivers for it either.

[edit]Almost forgot. System is a Compaq X1460CA, running WinXP Home and Fedora Core 2. Problem started after a reboot, after installing SP2.

Hmm...you might want to try uninstalling sp2 if nothing esle works..

Maybe if you uninstall, then let window choose the drivers it wants to use that *might* work.. but I won't count on that..

I can't think of anything else right now that could help..

If you just bought it, can you git tech support from compaq?

Uninstalling SP2 didn't work. Thanks though.

I'll contact Compaq if I can't get this working anytime soon, like tonight or tomorrow.
