Call a cog from another cog, without listing it in items.dat?

I think you can use SendTrigger();.

Nope, sendtrigger would only work if the cog was in items.dat.

You have to "load" the cog in order to be able to call it, weather it be SendMessage, or sendtrigger. "Loading" the cog would be including it in the list of cogs in JED, or items.dat.
