I've been thinking. If you've ever played Q3 and seen those surfaces that seem shiny or have a glare depending on the players view's orientation, to it, it's a similar effect to what I'm aiming for here. Obviously, no one is going to be able to create as complex a system as Q3's, but I was thinking more in terms of this: Perhaps it would be possible to create a cog that scrolls a surface depending on the players orientation to a certain surface? As in, if the player turns right while having the specified surface in view, then the surface would scroll left. My reasoning with this is that I could have a certain metallic or glarish texture layed oever another one on an adjoin, so it would actually look like sort of a glare or something.

Anyway, does anyone out ther think this is possible, or that I'm just crazy?

its probably possible, but oh my would it be a pain to do. and i wonder what kind of effects it would have on frame rate an stuff like that if any

mm.. it'd have to be local - not that'd it matter, since why would you need it to be global? :P

anyways.. you might be able to do something where the mat scrolls for a teensy bit while the player is in a sector (ie: if player is in sector to the right, scroll mat to the left for 2 secs. if he's in sector to the left, scroll mat to the right for 2 secs.)

it would look kinda cool.. heh, the best part of cogging - trying to do things in an engine 3 years older than everything else [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]
