ANTI_GRAV TUBES (HELP!!)
2001-01-26, 1:22 PM #1
This is my first post, so not all the right info may be included...I followed the tutorial as best as i could in my situation, which is slightly different than the example...in the tutorial it has a sector which was extruded from another sector, connenecting two sectors together, my sector is just a sector that is not closed in, but can be walked into from four sides, invisible while playing the game.
I got the cog (m5_antigrav.cog), and applied it to this sector. I then marked out the floor
area where i should stand for it to shoot me up, and tested it out, and when i got to the sector nothing happened at all. I double checked the flags, it was at 0, and
tested, yet again so success. I double checked that it was the right cog, it was,
and the right sector, and it was too, and tried it out, yet again, nothing. I've had a few friends see if i was doing anything wrong (one of my friends knows a little
bit more than me about jed. but now about anti-grav). The last thing i hav
come to is that i must extrude a sector and use a closed-in sector, which i
do not want to do. Am i mistaken, or have i gone horrbly wrong somewhere
along the line? Please help me out. If i did not include enough info for someone to help me, please let me know, and i will get you the correct info ASAP so you can help me ASAP.

Does the sector you marked with the m5_antigrav.cog connect to the floor where you marked with the surface? If not, make sure that the sector extends from bottom to top...
Also, try changing the no gravity flag for the sector to 1, instead of 0.

It does extend from top to bottom, and i'll try out the no gravity flag of 1. If not, i will use the no gravity flag, buts its too slow for me. [http://216.105.160.32/html/wink.gif]

what i've done is use the sector thrust cog instead. i extude the surface a little then immediately set the geo to 4 so that it doesn't appear to be extruded. i set gravity to zero. i extrude a little because in order to get thrusted up you have to be off the ground for some reason. otherwise the player just walks across the surface. i'm new to all this so i don't know why but that works great for me, provided there's space under the floor. that's actually what i did in my last level
"the mouse is my chisel."

So if i build like a little step under my sector that the player can walk on, it will work? By the way, where did you get the thrust cog, cause i may use that (or is it the flag that says "has thrust"?)

yeah, you make a little drop off but keep the floor's geo at 4 so that the player can't see the drop off unless you want him to. it's so that he doesn't keep walking on the floor. this way you can make it look like there's a floor there but since it's passable the player can't walk on it and get's shot up. you need to flag the sector as "has thrust" and "used in cog." put the cog in your project folder then hit F7 (placed cogs) and add it, assuming you're using jed. sector thrust is either already with jed or it's one of the cogs you can download here. but, yes, you need to flag it and have the cog
"the mouse is my chisel."

sorry, i just realized that maybe jk doesn't have the sector thrust cog. i've only done MotS levels and i don't know if sectorthrust is for jk too. the anti gravity tube should work with jk if you've flagged everything - maybe that's the problem.

I will try the little drop off, sounds like a good idea. I allready had the flag at has thrust and used in cog from the begining, but i'll try that.

i just tried it and it worked. i extracted the cog with conman, put it in my project folder then added it from there, not by selecting it from the list that comes with jed. it worked fine without the drop off
"the mouse is my chisel."
