Vehicles in JK
2001-06-28, 1:55 PM #1
Hello,
I was talking to my friend about vehicles in JK. He says that it is not possible to put two players in the same vehicle. I say that with a lot of experience and programming knowledge it could be done. Someone settle this one.

Possible, yes. Difficult, very. JK has a couple odd problems with certain things, which could cause the game to crash...

It's possible. I've done it.

I will not be online for 12 days. I am turning this discussion over to my friend The_Twisted_Spasm. I would like to know how you put two players inside the same 3DO. Please answer his questions.

Hi there. He got the name a little wrong, but forgive him. I only have a few questions. First off, I'm the friend Bender spoke of, and the idea we had was to have one player driving a vehicle, and another manning a turret on the same vehicle. While this is a great idea, I didn't see how you could do it in MOTS, much less JK. The only way I can see it being done is if you use the layers of the 3do, ie K_Chassis, K_Turret, and rig the cog to recognize input from each. I'm pretty good at cogging, and I don't know any way to code this. That was the arguement... how do you get the cog to recognize it all?
*_Seifer_*, if you got it to do something similar to what I described, how? Like I said, I have no clue. Thanks!

Well I'm not going to give away all the secrets. but the turrent it self is a seprate thing which is made and attatched to the tank. It will then look where ever the person who activates it looks. Kinda like my Pilotable missile.

Well to say that would be nice to have like a aircraft like thing that one person control, then like two or three or even 4 people could mann the turret, that would be so funny, like u could have a ship with 1 pilot, and 2 turret, then u could host a 6 player game and have the two ship duke it out

Well, I'll try to get back to you on a REALISTIC turret, but if it is stationary, this is quite simple. Merely attatch player two(turret operator) to player 1 (who is the driver), and set them both to the invisible flag. Now, create an object with the ship 3do, and attatch it to player 1. Need any specifics with it?

And another name *_Seifer_* gets wrong. Sorry man.

Hey Seifer, what pilotable missile? I need something kinda like that for a Dragonball Z mod! If you could pleez send it, my e-mail is mcavanah@earthlink.net. I will have to change something so that it fits the others, like the 3do or sounds, but i'll still give you credit of course.

Sorry Chewbacca it's for my TC, UJK

It's off the subject but u could easily make your won controllable missile. Other people know how to do it not just Seifer. Just don't ask me because i only now how to make it a little controllable, not as advanced as Seifers.

Thanks for all the input! Yes Dynasty specifics would be great. I'm getting pretty good with cogs, but this vehicle thing is really confusing...

Just so you know, when I post on a Cog Forum, its not cuz I know how to help people with Cogs...

Just comments, I have this one cog for remote controled conc somewhere on my HD. I'll look for it if someone really really wants it (but e-mail me k?)

Second, I've asked about 4 times on this forum about just one person vehicles and I never got an answer.... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

single player vehicles are very possible
not very many people have done it though

the best way to do it, in my opinion would be to have the player be set to invisible when the thing is activated, the player attached to the vehicle, the vehicle's model changed to be that of the vehicle+the player, and the player's view set to the thing

or just delete the vehicle and change the player's model and pup file
that would work even better

and for two player vehicle, that would work, but it would be even harder
you'd have to have 2 things (the pilot/driver half, and the gunner half) and make them attached, and do several long odd deletes and attaches and moves and model changes and pup changes, etc. to make it work
but it is possible

if I had my jedi knight cd, I'd start on it, but I don't have it
it got lost about a year and a half ago

I actually got about 75% done on a one person vehicle, but then I lost my jedi cd, and with no cd, no jed, and with no jed, no levels, and with no levels, no cog implementation/testing

grrrrrrrrrrr

oh well

if anyone knows how to use jed without a cd, contact me

I don't know how run JED without the CD, but JK is available just about everywhere for 15 bucks or LESS, an absolute steal in my opinion. Why don't you just go buy another copy? Or go the illiegal route and have some friend burn a copy of his(assuming you have a friend with a cd burner and a friend with JK)?

Does the CD crack work with JED?

If you mean jk._cd, no it won't work on JED. I think it looks at the .gob files on the CD to make sure that the one's on the HD are the same, but I'm not sure.

By the way, I've been meaning to ask; not to sound like an idiot, but what's the command to attach a 3do to another?
