...to give a surface health so it can be destroyed after it takes enough damage -- for instance a window that breaks after taking 50 points of damage.

Could you give me an example, like if a wall takes 30 damage it's geo changes from 4 to 0?

Couldn't you just modify the breaking glass cog to take specified amount of damage instead of first contact?

I've tried that, the problem is that I don't know what the correct funtion would be to give it health...

Use DamageThing(), but damage it a negative amount to give it health.
