is it possible to execute something OUTSIDE of JK with cog? I've had this question in mind for a while because when I edit for UT, I can make my own music to go with the level. With JK I'm stuck with SW's soundtrack which we all heard a godzillion times... If some cog-god could make a simple .MID player or at least a cog that links to an external program which plays .MID or .XM or .IT.. Im sure the whole community would love to have custom music in their levels

Im fairly sure thats impossible. A great idea, but cog wont reference anything outside JK.

If it could, Im sure it wouldve been done before.

Cog can't reference anything outside JK, but that doesn't mean you can't add your own music. There should be a tutorial around here somewhere showing you how.

btw I've come up with an idea to modify jkl files on the fly before launching JK itself.

...Sure, adding music is easy. As long as its a WAV file.

Exactly.. Im trying to mind the filesize a bit [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] The only stuff about music ever discussed on Massassi has been adding CD tracks to your levels which is what Im trying NOT to do. Or play a looping wav file at a whoppping 11khz.16b.st which annihilates high end sounds like a conc rifle on a mousebot.

It is possible... yet very difficult.

My solution to the problem of there not being MP3 support was to compile the mod zip with mp3s, and provide a launcher that searches for those mp3s and converts them to wavs. This way the user downloads a small zip, but JK can play them as wavs. I lost the launcher though, when I formatted last [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

Or you could just have a COG play a sound localy over and over. Just put it in the right format.

Yeah, but the problem with looping music in the background is, even at a low bitrate, it will still be a huge file, and that causes problems with slower systems...
