DataMaster 0.4.8
2002-09-27, 11:27 AM #1
For the past two months, I've been working on an update for the DataMaster. I completed and released version 0.4.8 today, and it is available at Saber's Domain. Here's a summary of the changes:
  • Major update to the Flags Section.
  • Added format specifiers to the print verbs' notes.
  • Updated the sync verbs' documentation.
  • Updated the Messages section.
  • Added the Messages tutorial.
  • Updated some verbs' documentation.

After you've downloaded the new version and looked over it, I'd appreciate some feedback. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

Really, I had hoped to do more with this update. I had wanted to create a new, comprehensive Cog tutorial and add multiplayer information for each of the messages. But, there is simply no time for that now, so it have to wait for a possible future update.

MUST...GET...MASTER'S...STUFF
I wonder how you can do all this research. Isn't it very time intensive?

No, he just asks us (the Massassian community) what someone gets when using these things, and puts everybodys ideas/uses and calls it his. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

He does research, some asking questions to us, and some on his own, and comes up with different hypotheses and conclusions. Kinda like the amazing, wonderful, stupendous "Scientific Method" [http://forums.massassi.net/html/rolleyes.gif] . [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

Honestly, I never use datamaster, it just sits on my harddrive as a zip. I don't know why I keep it. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

Just think of what it would be without something this amazing, MadQuack and Emon would take over Massassi with their n00b coggers (no bashing intended [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif] ) if this wasn't here. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif] Follow me?

Yeah, research takes a lot of time. But I would much rather spend my time on something useful, than on television or computer games, for example.

And it shows. You would do well to read the DataMaster. But at least update your zip. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

You there, GBK?

Interesting stuff. Nice work. Good to know someone in the JK field is still forging ahead with new discoveries.

Just because I never used it, doesn't mean I haven't read it. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif] I just am a sponge that soaks up knowledge, so I don't have to use JED, I can do it wtih wordpad. Whahahahahah. (I wish [http://forums.massassi.net/html/rolleyes.gif] this is just for my ego [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif] )

Not at the moment. I would like to some MotS (and possibly IM) research, but I just don't have the opportunity now.

Whats the point of researching IM, if editing it isnt allowed?

Hmm. Browsing through the flag sections, I stumbled accross the Debug Mode Flags... 0x400 is of particular interest. I didnt believe it, so I tested it for myself. Sure enough, it works. SP and MP too. This is incredible.

Matrix mods in JK ARE possible.

yeah...but te problem is: it will be slowmo for all players...which kind of destroys the advantage for the user...

Is LEC able to ban editing? As long as no one makes money off of editing IM and it doesn't cost LEC, I don't think they can make editing illegal. There have been some new copyright laws passed since LEC made IM's EULA, though I don't recall the specifics.

Debug Mode Flags are local to each computer. So each player that has the flag will try to make the physics on his computer run in slow motion. The worst that can happen is unsynced or awkward movement, but it can work.

Thanks, Hellcat. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

That's not the point. What's the benefit of slowmo for the activator when all players get it at the same time? Nothing.

I agree GBK's cog just appears to be for fun but as Sabermaster said:

"Debug Mode Flags are local to each computer."

It would be easy to setup a trigger system that makes all the other players slow-mo while allowing 1 person to move at full speed.
