no matter how hard i try, or which tutorials i follow, i cannot make any COGs work. Not even the most simple door opening, or lift activating ones (never mind more interesting things like force- fields or traps).
I dont understand the actual language of cogs, but i dont see how this should matter. Is there any reason why COGs hate me so much?Any suggestions as to what i might be doing wrong?
thanks.

Make sure you use the sytax checker in cogwriter.

Trying isnt enough. You must know how to do these things. No amount of effort can replace real knowledge.

Door cogs are terribly complex. Start with something smaller, like text output cogs.

This is your mistake. If you want to cog, then you must KNOW the language. You cannot simply cut and paste and expect it to work. There are rules that must be followed, because if they arent, it simply WONT work.

No, cogs dont hate you. Cogs are your friend.

First, read Pele's old tutorial. Yeah, I know, JediKnight is gone . . . but you can still find it here... Then, download the Datamaster. It contains detailed descriptions of every JK verb, and plenty of tutorials for you to read. Odds are, if these resources cannot teach you to cog, nothing can.

Oh, yeah, since this is a purely cog related question, it belongs in the COG FORUM... Good luck to you. If you have any questions, dont hesistate to post them in the cog forum.

I used to believe that we only want what we can't have. I was wrong. The truth is, the wonderful truth is, we only want what we think we can't have.

GBK oNline. Cogs, tuts, and total w00tage.

GBK is right. You have to understand the theory of COG to be able to really program in it. If you know any other programming languages (C and PHP would really help), that would be a plus.

And, since I'm here, I'll just cart this to the COG forum.

Syntax is like cog grammer. If one little thing doesn't make sense, JK wont read it.

I found that knowing JavaScript from doing web page stuff helped also with learning COGs. There's some similarity in the language - hey they both use arrays too.

So, if you know COG you can pick up JavaScript without much trouble.

I think, there hasnt been a full-fledged programming language made in the last 40 years that HASNT had arrays... But still, your right, there is some similarity.

If you know ANY programming language, itll help. But, I didnt, and I still managed. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]
