I really don't like asking people for favors such as cogs, so I want to learn cog. Good, Where do I start, I have downloaded the Jk editing manual, and well I don't know where to start.

If you don't have a basic understanding of programming: if statements, loops, counters, ect ect, then I reccomend picking up a book that teaches you C++. Cog is loosely based on C, so many things will translate over seamlessly.

Well, after that, get the datamaster and read it. And then? Look at other cogs. Some tutorials in the editing manual might help you, too. There aren't many about cog, but some might show you where to look for an interesting one.

The way I learned cog is just experimenting. I never learned C++. The only programming I've ever done was in BASIC, and that was a long time ago. You can learn a lot by looking at jk's cogs. Start simple, though.

All I knew before COG was GFA Basic. Then I just had a look at the COGs, studied, Emailed a friend some 100 questions, and I became a master with COGs (OK... Master and Master... I'm not like the people who invented the COG). Most of the COGs I post to help people with are purely guess work. If you feel that I'm bragging too much, Sorry...

I just had a great post about how I learned to COG, and some advice for you, and it took me llike 5 mins to type it. It would have been really helpfull, almost like a tutorial, only really short. But hey, Recon decided that you were better off not having that post, so it ate it. Thank you to whoever is DoS attacking recon. Now i don't feel like typing it again. GRRR!

First, to gunboy: I suggest that you use the copy function on all your posts before you submit them, just incase.

Second, to M_Knight_Jess1: I learned cog by just looking at the cogs posted here at massassi and the LEC ones. Try to find some cogs that have good documentation in them. That will help you understand what each line is doing. I also recommend getting Datamaster, it helps me a lot.
