I was going to make a scary little Single Player level, when I wondered what in the world it would take to make a zombie, killer, alien, ghost, or animal enemy AI. What are the limits? Can a mod, like Walk on Walls be applied to the enemy AI? Can the enemy sidestep away from damage? Or is the enemy AI less limited than the player? Can the enemy AI walk up 90 degree inclines? Can the enemy AI activate a switch? Lastly, the most importent question of all... Can the enemy AI be scary?

Discuss.

P.S. I've never seen a working flashlight cog for JK, so if anyone would be willing to slap one up, so that it drains batteries, I'd be more than thankful. I just hope it doesn't require a mod to function.

Army TC beta 2 had a flashlight, it was pretty simple. But you could make it better by limiting the range better and stuff.

There are no limits. Anything you can do to the player, you can do to any thing in JK. I don't know if an AI can actually "Activate" a door but you can make it seem like it.

As for scary.... Make it look creepy and all monstery like, shifty OH! Make it teleport! And keep it dark, flickering lights help. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Wow, I don't even remember making this topic... Now THAT'S scary.

Yeah, I was going to have teleporting enemies that fade when a bullet comes near them.

But what I'd really like is an 'Alien' like enemy that bounces off of walls and junk, but I'm not to sure how possible it is with JK.

You can do almost anything you want with AI, it's just a question of how far you're willing to go. Making them jump off of walls isn't impossible, but at the same time it would require more work than it's worth. You can pretty easily make them avoid projectiles though - rbots can do that. For any of this stuff, you're going to need to write your own lengthy class cog for the AI.

Jumping and sticking on walls is a cinch. Just orientate them the right way before you thrust them which ever way you want to have them go. Like they decide to randomly jump to the left, just rotate them at a 45 degree angle, and if there's a 90 degree wall to the left of them, it won't be 90 degrees according to the way they're orientated to it, and they'll stick with appropriate WoW code. I'm sure a method of TeleportThing() and an invisible orientation detector thing could be devised so the enemy wouldn't sink into the walls either.

It all depends on how you look at solving a situation via cog and how complicated you're willing to write these sons a *****es to get them to do what you want them to do. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

So HR, looking for a job? :-P

I don't know. Sounds like a bit too much for just a SP level.

No, I'm making JK my bizatch and putting everything imaginable into TDiR. But thanks, ego++; [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

A bit much? Nothings a bit much if you can figure it out on your own outside the box. Besides, the image of a wall crawler jumping from wall to wall towards me down a corridor in a clockwise motion sends shivers down my fricken spine now. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Well, as for sidestepping bullets - yes. I've done it.

Walking up walls is a yes also, it'd just take a little tweaking.

90 degree inclines is a no.

Scary? I once made an AI file that, when attached to an enemy, was worse than several players combined.

Once you let that sucker lose, it took like, 30 of your own deaths before you could successfully kill the thing. It didn't have more health or speed or super damaging bullets either - it was just GOOD.

The key is to give the AI every single event, and crank them all up.

Did you read my post? No..... It's only 90 degrees if the things orientation is perpendicular to it.

Don't I count? AI is my specialty in cog... I do have one of the best friendly/baddie AI systems yet. For I have yet to find a better one. I think I might be bragging alittle tho. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]
