can someone plz tell me who to use cog?[the computer language btw]

janitor bobs idea of rogers video: He's actually the overweight guy next door who has a HUGE selection of videos, including the entire Lethal Weapon, Halloween, and 'Ernest' series.
The advantage is is that you can 'borrow' movies for long amounts of time without him remembering that you borrowed them.

The disadvantage is the pizza cheese grime on the DVDs

There's a massassi tutorial on Cog basics. There's also some stuff in the Datamaster.
I also took a C++ class, which really helped me learn structure, parameters, etc. The programming language C is the parent language of both COG and C++, so C++ was rather similar to COG.

I've found that possibly the best way to become a better cogger (so far anyway [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif] ) is PRACTICE. Start with not-so-complex stuff and work up.

Exactly what Darth Slaw has already pointed out [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] (Geez Slaw - you're beating me to all the "wannabe-coggers" questions these days [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif] - I should really try and get online more... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif] ).

I believe that even some of the original JK team went to night school classes to learn C, to help them better understand cog, so that's probably a good place start [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

As a keen programmer, my best advice is to just "practice", as Slaw suggests; get "something/anything" working first, before trying to make the code more efficient [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif] - that is, unless you have absolute faith in your choice of implementation of algorithms... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

Same goes for all computing languages - start small, learn the language's syntax and "vocabulary" of key/reserved words and after that - just tinker around until you get your desired effect [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Hope this helps [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Some tools you can use for your COGging.
JK DataMaster, Parsec, Scribe, and the EditPlus Cog Files.

Stole them from SaberMasters sig... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif] He also has COG tutorials!

also, try to do basic things first.

i never learnt C and i personaly dont thing its mutch like cog at all. cog is more like basic if you ask me.

i started by editing the orginal cogs to do other things, for instance editing a door camera cog to work when i activated a surface insted of a thing.

lately i ahve been trying all sorts of things (most of witch are all hanging about half done) like a jedi acdemy style interface inside a level, _decore based AI, and better AI sync cogs (that may never work :'()

but dont try and delve strait into cog from scratch, try to slwoly dig deeper untill you hit the gold.

Ed, why do you capitalize cog as 'COG?'

An old thing... My earlier years at a computer was an ATARI that, of course, displays file names capital 8.3 characters. And COG being a file extention, or possibly an abreviation, I therefore put capital COG...

That one's yours... I took those links from SM sig, not yours. Wait, you don't have Cogpad in your sig... Therefore I didn't include it in my post.
