I have an inexplicable idea . . .

. . . This will probably sound stupid, but I just wanted to suggest it. Someone may even have already used/attempted this method before. I dont know for sure of that, but I do know this:

Many people have tried to get footprints in JK, like in snow or sand, and I've actually seen it pulled off quite well. I've seen it done with 3dos before, but I was wondering if there was an easier, perhaps more framerate efficient way. You see, would it be possible to have a mat with numerous frames (multi-celled I mean) that could be activated by the player treading on this. This probably wouldn't work, cuz you would probably need lots of surfaces and the directions of the footprints might be a problem, but maybe my vague idea could start someone off on a good one. I'm NOT talking about remapping the JK engine (some of you may remember that thread [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif] ) but I would like some system of footprints in *another* (sigh) one of my numerous level projects. Thanks all, much appreciated.

Think about it - to get the effect to look decent you'd need lots and lots of little sectors with mats, and lots of cogging to detect each and every sector's activity and change to the appropriate cell.

When you think of it like that, it'd be more framerate-efficient to just do it the old way with templates.

Sorry, I didn't mean to waste your time. It does sound pretty stupid now that I think about it. Perhaps I could rephrase it: do you know of any good ways I could implement footprints into my level? Thanks.

Send an email to CaveDeamon. He did some *really* good footprints in one of his recent (and now defunct) mods. He showcased screenshots of it, and if I recall correctly, it got a SOTD....

Oh yeah, I remember that - http://www.massassi.net/sotd/2002-01-21.shtml

I'll have to find his email and contact him about it. However, I don't believe he edits for JK anymore. Thanks GBK!
