Can someone give me a rundown on how to make a custom crosshair?

this may not help much but i think you just put a transparent mat with your crosshair pic on it in front of your guy. i think there is a patch that lets you make them. You'll have to search it.

I have figure it has something to do with making a transparent mat infront of the player somehow, probally through cog...

Actually, 3do crosshairs are probably the way to go at this point in JK editing. Ask Darth Slaw and Shred18 about these. Hopefully they'll find this thread.

In general, you want to use sprites for crosshairs... the only reason you'd want a 3do for a crosshair is to have translucent parts, or maybe certain types of animations (eg rotating reticles)... basically, more advanced crosshair stuff. Otherwise, you put yourself through unneeded hassles, such as aligning the texture on the 3do surface, centering the surface, etc.

A basic example of how to do a crosshair, sprite type and 3do type, is attached to this post. It should get you started :)
