How excusable is it to have over 52 surfaces visible, and get that endless mirroring effect? I mean, it's not like calling a Middle Easterner a dog. Can people live with it?

I'll need to attach some photos later on in the thread. Stay tuned.

Maybe one or more surfaces don't have the 0x1 (renders past adjoin) flag set... unadjoin and readjoin is the quickie fix.

But why is 52 apparently a "magic number"?
May the mass times acceleration be with you.

Err, why don't you just split the sector in two?

Blood_Asp taught me last year that JK can only draw 52 surfaces at a time, in level. Any more than that, and the infamous hall of mirrors starts appearing over the surfaces that cannot be drawn.

Are you talking about the 128 visible adjoin limit?

Probably so. I learned something new.

i think doom can handle 52 surfaces, JK can certainly handle more than 52

Yeah, 52 surfaces per level would be a little few. I think even the standard JK multiplayer maps have more than that...

Are you saying you have a level with HOM effects? Cause it probably wouldn't be any sort of surface limitation causing it.

A deleted surface most likely. Do you use JKEdit then?

Yes, all of your levels must be under 52 surfaces if you use JKEdit

No, I don't believe in JKedit. And I'm 99% sure I didn't haphazardly delete a surface. After I removed my water's translucency, everything looked normal again.

Here, I brought a screen to work with me today:

I had cleaved my level quite a bit, leaving little to 3do's. Blood_Asp told me there was a limit to the number of visible somethings you can have, and that I was past it (pretty sure he said sector surfaces).

He probably said visible adjoins (which are level surfaces that link sectors together)

In addition to too many visible adjoins (128 is the max without patching JK), surfaces will HOM if:
  1. The surface has the translucent flag or has a GEO value of 0, and
  2. The surface is not adjoined or does not have the "Renders past adjoin" adjoin flag
May the mass times acceleration be with you.
