Keys are a pain in the butt

The same new patch I asked about in my other thread is aslo what I'm asking about here. I made a custom walkplayer 3do for my patch that has all the basic bodyparts of kyle (head neck lshouldr lforearm), but after renaming them all to k_soandso the model did not work with the keys. That's not what I'm asking about though. This model is about 1.5 times as large as kyle and is not proportionate. I need someone to help me do Key files as my version of puppet jedi on MY computer crashes every time. I don't need inside view keys done, and saber keys can probably be left out because the character is not a jedi. If you are interested, I will send you the model, mats and background and specifics. Also, I don't want you to do everything. I'm going to try at least half.

***Does anyone know why Puppet Jedi is going beserk? I opened a DARK FORCES 3do, not the same format as JK, and now whenever I use a JK one it crashes. I have deleted it and unzipped it over a dozen times and I remade the 3do file type in my computer. Thanks.

You can get your model to work with the normal keys, provided that how you want the model to animate, by:

1) load ky.3do, goto tools> 3do hierachy (JED .95) save as 3DH file.
2) load custom 3do, check that all the layers/meshes/nodes are properly named goto tools > 3do hierachy, load the previous 3DH file, and add any missing nodes
3) edit the mesh (drag the little green dots if for example your neck is longer etc.)
4) export and save.

There is also a keyed program somewhere out there (I can't remember what it exactly does).

If you are looking for alternatives to PuppetJedi, TrajJedi is the only other KEY program I can think of...

There is the KeyMaster Plugin for JED, I haven't tried it myself.

Hell Raiser's KeyEd program [development thread]

His site is down, so I've uploaded KeyEd 0.2 as an attachment.

CavEmaN, that method will work only for models of the same size as LEC Kyle... HackSaw's model is 1.5 times as big and not the same proportion, so things like the arms and legs, and probably the head as well, still will not animate correctly
May the mass times acceleration be with you.

Yea, KeyEd is a great thing to use for this. It loads the keys and changes their hierachy to fit that of the new model. This is the fastest thing I can think of (Some of the keys don't get changed for me, they get errors, but maybe they will for you?)

Got it. Does anyone want to see the model? I know I sound paranoid, but I've got this thing for secrecy..... They're coming to get me!! AHHH!! If you do, just say the word.

No matter what, I can't seem to be able to get past the missing MSFLXGRD.OCX message even though I have it. Anyone else have this problem?

You need Microsoft Visual Basics to run KeyEd.

Its somewhere on the massassi site.

I had to go steal all my oler brother's ocx files on his computer to get it to work. But still, no luck. I need someone good at keys. HELP ME!! I will gladly let you see the model if you are serious, but I just don't want to let it sit out and get stale. haha.
