Well, I'm not sure exactly which 3do editor you used. If you did something in a weird order, it wouldn't have been hard to screw up the node hierarchy of the 3do.

I'd suggest trying to do this with a text editor. Find the rail detonator model mesh, and copy&paste a concussion rifle mesh section directly over it. Add the MAT references at the top of the file and change the corresponding numbers in your newly pasted concussion rifle mesh and it's all done. If you wanted to rotate the mesh or something, then a 3do editor'd be good for that.

As I said in my list of items, I used JED. I then edited the text with wordpad. I performed the procedure you described, copy/paste directly over previous information. I'll try it again tomorrow though.

My next problem is just as goofy. Sure, I could have yanked someone else's conc-toting stormtrooper, but I thought it would be better practice to do it on my own.

Now let me describe this to you. There's a stormtrooper torso on the back of his rifle. I double-checked the 3do, I didn't knowingly put it there. Freaks me out.

Here's how I put together the stormtrooper.
  1. First, I loaded the rail detonator stormtrooper 3do and pasted in the concussion rifle from the bossk 3do.
  2. Second, I rotated the conc a little and placed it over top of the rail detonator.
  3. Third, I deleted the rail detonator and changed the color of the shoulder pad.
  4. Fourth, I exported the 3do from JED.
  5. Fifth, I edited the 3do so to elevate the stormtrooper out of the ground.
  6. Sixth, I reopened the rail detonator stormtrooper 3do and copy/pasted the right arm information over top of the concussion stormtrooper right arm info.

I saw the torso in-game. I checked the 3do, and there it was (???). I tried deleting it, and suddenly the trooper had no torso at all in-game...

Lotta words for something that's a quick fix. Know what? Let's make it a race to see who can solve this first, GO!

I wrote a tutorial a few years ago, you can find it here, Change an Actor's Weapon.. It's been awhile since I've reviewed it, but if I remember right, I explained everything in a decent amount of detail in that one. It should cover everything.

I'm seconding Stormtrooper's plug for his site and tutorials because I really feel that they're well thought out and expressed - it's helped refresh my memory as to how to add different weapons to actor models :). Seeing as the last time I did anything related to 3DO editing was a couple of years ago now, his site provides a simple, straight-forward and well detailed articles covering the essentials :)

You should submit those tutorials Stormtrooper - even though I recall the original thread you made several years back, we could do with some "newer" article content on massassi :)

I never submitted them because once I made them JK editing was almost non-existent. It's picked up quite a bit since then, maybe I'll go through them and update those and then finish the few others that I never got done. Including my dual light saber tutorial...
