Making a level out of 3dos?
2005-10-06, 8:30 PM #1
I've been editing for a while now, and I've got an idea. I'm too lazy to try it out, but....

Would it be possible to make a level that consisted almost entirely of 3dos? Like mapping the level out in reverse to negative-space editing, and then converting it to a 3do?

I'm sure there'd be a ton of glitchy problems, though.

Hm.

Post your thoughts/comments.

Hmmm...a level made out of 3do's is really Framerate sucking also it could have some graphic errors.....

Erm, not really. 3DOs would bypass JK's horrible realtime vis algorithms, which are why more adjoins on the screen slows things down.

What kind of level are we talking? Floating platforms and such, like Dark Tempest are ideal for a 3DO level.

Perhaps a spaceship or asteroid level. (Or combination?)

Hm. It was just a thought. I forgot about Dark Tempest.

A Cloud City type level would probably work with 3dos, too.

Heck yes its possible, but very controversial. Check out Space Knoxx:

This is retarded, and I mean drooling at the mouth

I'm not sure how it's controversal. 3do's are the way to go...

I've got a floating platform-type level (incomplete) that is surrounded by a moving worm-hole like tube. Basically the never-ending tube is kind of like a fancy changing skybox, except its a moving 3do within one giant sector. I can make a complex 3do platform-like structure and just insert it in the proper location within the tube. But, if i carved the level out with sectors I couldn't have the worm-hole tubes surround the level. 3dos like to be in one sector. :)

File not found :( (the level zip that is)
May the mass times acceleration be with you.

That sounds like a good situation for 3do-architecture. A bad situation would be a dungeon with mostly narrow tunnels.

Space Noxx's 3DOs weren't very well done. I should know, I made it.

I'll get around to releasing Space Noxx II one of these days.

Ive made a level entirely out of 3do's....

ITS CALLED TERRAINING!!! :o

I also made the interior of a Guaould SHip out of 3do's but i reached the maximum thing limit :(
Code:
if(getThingFlags(source) & 0x8){
  do her}
elseif(getThingFlags(source) & 0x4){
  do other babe}
else{
  do a dude}

Yes, it can be done. And you can achieve some pretty cool effects this way:
