Texture Creation
2007-02-25, 2:35 AM #1
There has always been on element of editing which I have seen on many levels that I played or downloaded as that of custom textures. I have noticed that many editors have used their own textures.

I have referred to the tutorials on creating textures and MATs, but I cannot seem to get it right. I want to create levels which do not use the orignal JK textures, just to make my levels more unique. Has anyone got any suggestions on how to make really good textures instead of using the JK ones. Btw I use Paint Shop Pro for all my graphics. I just want to make my levels stand out a bit more.

I'd like to know how other people make really good textures. If can help - it would be well recieved :)

use theft!

Google textures or whatever you need, save the picture, and edit it in paint shop pro yourself.

I've recently been taking photos of materials, tiling them, and making them mats.

Its practise makes perfect here sir.
Code:
if(getThingFlags(source) & 0x8){
  do her}
elseif(getThingFlags(source) & 0x4){
  do other babe}
else{
  do a dude}

Just extract the textures already made for jedi knight levels. I'm sure the original authors won't care/will be happy. If you want to make your own, just note that there are two different kinds of textures:
8 bit
16 bit

8 bit are the original-looking style ones. They are limited in # of colors, just look at a .pal file. 16 x 16 = 256 differnet colors allowed. Each .pal is different and allows different ones, but this is obviously an outdated method. If you have a color different from what the .pal has, it will make it some crazy color (often pink).

16 bit are better, but they require 3d graphics cards to view them ingame.

It's sooo much easier to use other people's work. Making textures that repeat (like tiles) is such a pain to get it right. The best authors innovate
