Extracting Textures without pink flood?
2007-08-14, 12:34 PM #1
I've been trying to extract and modify textures from Dark Forces 2 as of late, but half of the textures are covered in pink. How can I avoid this?

Thankx in advance!

What program are you using to extract the textures?

Oh and the pink is there because the textures are 8bit and use different pallets to render; you need to have the right pallet for them. (If you're using Mat16, load the pallet in the pallets section and extract the texture that way.)

I believe I was using JKGOB ver 0.4 to extract them.

Is Mat 16 another program that can extract textures? If so I'll do a hunt with that and give it a try because JKGOB does not mention anything about the pallette.

What are you using the textures for?

A project I'm working on for GzDOOM and another one for PrBOOM on the Nintendo DS:

I went back and realized that JKGob only extracts the textures, so I can't recall what I had used to convert the textures to BMP at this moment, but I think that might be what caused everything to go pink on me.

If I can get things to convert to BMP without the pink then I'll be perfectly set to go.

Yeah, when you convert the Mats to BMP, you have to load the pallets (.CMP files inside of JK. They're numbered, like the textures, so it shouldn't be too hard to figure out which goes where.)

I have not came across any CMP files in the GOBs.

EDIT, never mind, found them! :)

I saw how the pallette #'s matched up with the MAT #'s!

I used Mat16 with MatMaster and was able to convert everyting to BMP with propper colors, thankx again!!!

You can extract any mats using conman, and extract bmps from mats using Mat16 without bothering with the pallettes
This is retarded, and I mean drooling at the mouth

I noticed, the only downfall is that Mat16 does not seem to support batch extraction.
