I have a crashing problem with one of my levels
2008-10-18, 11:00 AM #1
After many many attempts I just cant fix it and cant finish creating the level.

It seems that connecting a particular room to another room in the level was causing a crash upon startup of the level. I deleted the connections and everything worked just fine. So I save the project and do another test and it crashes. Even though the saved project has the bad stuff removed it still crashes.

I'm one that will not make too much stuff without saving in between each build so that this does not occur. Reverting back to earlier builds will result in the same problem.

Any ideas guys? Because I'm too far into the level just to scrap it and start over. I'd like to mention that I'm a jkedit user so jed talk is greek to me hehe. And when I say save, i mean saving it as a jkedit file and using jkedits test function, which automatically creates a Gob named jkedit.gob.

Did you add any new things since the last stable build? Are you within the max thing limit of Jedi Knight? Are you within the max surface limit of Jedi Knight?
the idiot is the person who follows the idiot and your not following me your insulting me your following the path of a idiot so that makes you the idiot - LC Tusken

!incoming wall of text!

It has:

362 sectors
3188 surfaces
2766 vertices
32 materials
84 objects
59 cogs
175 templates

What are the limits because thats the first i've heard of it.

Let me explain in detail the steps i've taken to try and fix it.

I determined that it was one of my rooms causing the problem. It was like a command room where I made slanted computer terminals using the sector and surface geometry rather than 3dos. This had worked fine in my other levels which are much bigger than this level is currently.

I deleted the room and saved, loaded the level just fine in jk. I closed jk and tested the same build again just to see if i was lucky. It crashed, Tried again, it crashed. Deleted all of the cogs including startup and goals cog, it crashed. Reverted to previous build that was also unstable and deleted the connection between that room and another part of the level (which i thought was the original bug was that connection) saved and loaded the level. Works fine, tested again to see if i was lucky. Crashed.

The only thing I haven't done is remove the new 3dos that I put in the level such as landed xwings, ywings and Awings. But those worked just fine in the very early builds.

Ok oddly enough I decided to delete the xwing, vwing, awings and ywings and now it doesn't crash anymore after several tests. this puzzles me because during earlier builds I did not have crashing problems with those in my levels.
