A single beam of light...
2000-09-04, 5:24 AM #1
Hello again, everybody. I was dinking around with JED, and made a dome with a hole up top. Now I want to have light coming through the hole at the top and beaming down onto a spot on the floor right below it. I couldn't undrstand the lighting tutorial, so don't suggest it. If you know how do to this, please explain it to me.
Thank you.

I'm afraid that that didn't really help.

Make a 3do of the lightahaft. Make it transperant with the face flag "transperant". Use the template maker to make your 3do into a template. Place it right under your hole. Above the hole, place a light object by going into light mode [a bulb tab on the top pallet]. With the light object positioned and selected, hit return and enter the range and intensity fields. Hope that helped. If you want my advice, use the new method of lighting calculation found in options-- it looks a heck of a lot better than the old method to me.

if you want to use dynamic lights, just make sure to cleave up the floor first, because jedi knight uses vertex lighting
And meanwhile the bus with legs has destroyed half of disneyland . . . and nobody cares!

...except dymanic lights don't really need that much vertexes than the regural lighting.

Still, it's better to place the dynamic light-sources near something.

You might make a sector from the hole to the floor, make the walls trans, non-blocking, and walk thru for player and AI. Then give the sector some appropriate light tint and intensity.
