how do i get adobe (photoshop of course) to save a 256 colors BMP?

You can't. But you can copy and paste the whole image into paint, and then save it as 256 from there. But they lose a lot of quality.

im guessing you mean paintshop pro but that cost $100 and I dont have free access to it, can any other program do it?

Yeah, I hate Photoshop. They brag about how it's the industry standard and such, but it's so hard to figure out, it's interface sucks, and all that RGBcolor/Indexcolor crap is a pain in the @$$. You can't predictably edit mats with it.

Goto your favorite download sight, and grab a graphics utility. PSP, Ulead, etc. There's tons of 'em out there.
