MATs and CMPs not happy with each other in shadows...

I have a level that is predominantly 13concw1 and 09tech3.... But here's my problem: When I load the level, the shaded areas have spots all over. I've tried different CMPs, and the only one that works is 01yellow.... unfortunately I have force fields that have textured surfaces, and glass windows that can be shattered, and the CMP doesn't like that. (It crashes the game every time I turn towards a translucent surface... I don't know of any forcefields that can use a solid color... and even if it did, it would have to be translucent... oi!!.... Any ideas?!?! e-mail mr_cookie_wookie@hotmail.com if you do.

Ahhh, 16-bit. What would I do without you...

So basically, as long as it's in 16-bit, those spots won't show up?

A CMP designates 256 colors to a level. 16-bit mats have a capacity for something like 24,000 colors, and don't need to obey that rule.

But, a video card is required to use them, which means some people won't be able to appreciate your work. And also, I personally have gotten bad results using 16-bit on translucency. Maybe that's just my card though.

The game crashing isn't a CMP issue. Why does the force field have to be translucent?

The force fields have to be translucent so that I can look through it into the other room. It's complicated...

Simple answer - You can't have more than 1 CMP for your level (Well, if you use 01narsh you can use 01narshred and 01narshyellow).. Multiselect all your sectors, give 'em the same CMP, and then set that CMP as your master cmp in the level header editor (f6)..

As for your forcefields, it's probably a GEO problem.. Make sure your setting the GEO to 4 for regular textures and 3 for solid ones..

Those mats just aren't ment to work together. If you want to use both of them you will have to extract them and convert them to 16 bit mats with Mat16.
