I scanned in a picture to use for a skin, and it looked fine in paint shop pro, but when i tried to make a .mat out of it, the colors went "Caphlooey" anybody know what's going on or how to fix it?

Did you convert it using MatMaster? If so you will have to make the colors fit with a cmp. If you want to use more colors you will have to use 16 bit mats (Mat16 is available at www.outpostd34.com).

You are probably using too much detail.I once did that and ited of being pixilated like normal it went "Caphlooey" .

Are you sure there is too much detail? Shouldn't there still be a way to make it a .mat?

When you scan the picture into Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop select (in PSP) Colors---->Load Palete, and then choose a palete to use for your image, I have been using the 0narsh palete recently and it has a wide array of colors to use. I have scanned Star Wars pictures and used them as artwork in my levels, just make sure you find a palete that makes the best of the color selection for your mat

If using mat master try checking remap palette
