when I go to try out my level in jk, I click on the episode, and up pops 'error, could not load level'. also, on another level i was working on, i clicked on the episode name, and it looked like it was going to work, but when it was done loading, it exits jk. How do I fix these problems?

You probably have in invalid sector. Which could be a concave (non-convex) sector or sectors that over lap...etc. You should check your level in Jed. See what the errors are...then go the to problem areas and fix em up till there are no more problems. Sometimes if an area is too jacked up you might just want to start over rather than try to make your vertices line up.

though nothing shows up in the consistency checker.

Here's what you do:

1. Click on the link in my signature.
2. Go to the editing help - troubleshooting page.
3. Go through the list of things for that problem. It covers all the common reasons for that error message.

If the consistency checker is clean, its probably a problem with the episode editor.
