How would i put music into my level?

I got a cool star wars wav file, and am wondering how i could use it in the level i'm working on. How is this done?

Well, if you want it to play continuously throughout the level, simply multi-select every sector in the level, hit enter, then add the WAV into the sound box, give it the appropriate volume, and waa laa! That's what I did in Dralloc Arena.

Oh, and make sure it's not a song written and composed by anybody else but yourself. They don't post levels here at Massassi if the level has copyrighted material in it. I learned that the hard way. [http://216.105.160.32/html/smile.gif]

Oh well. I got some of the Force Commander music off the cd (that i bought) and they have the one i wanted to use on their webpage 4 dloading, and i'm going to use it, it'd make the level more dramatic.

When i release the level, i'll just have the music not be included, but if people want the music, they'll need to come to my site to download it. [http://216.105.160.32/html/smile.gif]

Well, you shouldn't include other sounds if they violate a copyright or if they are from another LEC game. Otherwise you violate the terms of the readme required by LEC for all add-on levels. So, you can't take a sound file from Force Commander and include it in a JK add-on level.

The open question is whether it violates a copyright to use a wav file owned by a Lucas company. If, for example, you take a wav file from Star Wars and include it in a level, you may be okay. Siege on Derra IV does this and no one has been up in arms about it.

I don't think it violates the fair use of the copyrighted material since it is not done for profit and LEC basically owns every add-on level anyway according to the required readme. I can see how it might be a violation to use copyrighted matieral from some other company, but it seems like you should be able to use anything from Star Wars that is not from a LEC game.

Just a thought. And, oh yes, I really want to include some different music in my next level and no one wants me to try to compose music myself. [http://216.105.160.32/html/smile.gif]

Don't do it via SectorSound. Do it with cog.
Open PlaySong.cog, and alter the PlaySong lines to PlaySoundLocal... It'll be just like using the normal game soundtrack. [http://216.105.160.32/html/smile.gif]

Hmm, what if he used the mp3's that Lucasarts released on their site? That anyone could download? Would it still violate laws?

It is acceptable to use Star Wars music in a level, as long as all copyrights are owned by LEC/LF. At least that's the standard at TACC. If Brian says different, so be it.

Brian and I had a discussion about a level I wanted removed because it used some sounds pulled from the movies. What we ended up saying is that technically, yes it was violation of the EULA. But, his said that since you can get them from so many reputable starwars web sites there's really no point in enforcing that bit of the copyright section. Just be sure you don't pull anything out of other games.

I was planning on using the imperial rage music off the force commander site, the file is too big when converted to a wav though! Is there a way to just add mp3s?
