I was using adobe photoshop 5.0 to make some mats and they always come out really messed up. Is there ny way to turn their swatches into .CMP files?

Yes there is. You can download the palette files from the misc section (they're for PSP) and I think you can load them into PS.

If not, you can open a mat and turn it's available colors into the swatches. Gah I can't remember how to do it exactly, but read the help files on converting available colors into a palette.

Ok, the easiest way I've found is to forget about the swatches altogether and just use color tables.

To create the color tables that correspond with each cmp, just convert an existing mat that uses that cmp to a bmp file. Load it into Photoshop. Select Image -> Mode -> Color Table. Now Click 'Save'. Repeat for each cmp you need.

Now when you create new mats, just select Image -> Mode -> Indexed Color. When the dialog box opens, select Palette -> Custom. Now load the Color Table you created earlier for the cmp you want.
