256 colors vs 16.7 million colors
2001-04-29, 2:04 PM #1
I went and made my own skin for an enemy i am curently making, but I stupidly went and made them as 16.7 million colors (which is 24 bit) instead of being 256 colors. Then when I tried to convert them from bmp's to mat's, matmaster said that it can only convert 256 color bmps to mats. Is there a way in paint shop pro for me to convert the bmps I made from 16.7 million color to 256 color? Or do I have to do every bmp I made over again? Someone please help!

Use Mat16. That allows 16-bit textures.

If you don't have a 3d card, you have to load the appropriate .pal files for each texture you have.

I don't have a 3d card, and (excuse me for my stupidity) I don't have a clue how to do that .pal thing you meantioned.

Oh, and where can I find mat16?

http://outpostd34.gamestats.com/ for Mat16. It won't do you any good though. JK doesn't support 16 bit mats unless you have a 3d video card.

You can find the JK colormaps converted to .pal files in Massassi's download section (probably under misc. section).

Once you get the .pal file, simply go to "colours/load pallette" and choose jk.pal, and it will be 256 colours.

Ok, I'll just forget Mat16. So, I have to remake all my bmps? Dang. They weren't very hard to make. Thanks anyway.
