Colormaps

I'm currently doing a Force-Commander-style AT-AT Barge and I intend to use the same textures as in Force Commander, but the colors in the textures don't fit very well to the existing colormaps (the results of palette remapping don't satisfy me). So, I'd like to know if there's a program that can convert Windows Palette Files (*.PAL) to CMPs.

Of course I could manually change the colors in the CMP with JKpacmut, but that would be too time consuming...

Anyone? Please...

It won't do you much good making a new colormap because you won't be able to use the barge with any of JK's textures. You'll have a good looking barge, but you won't be able to put it in any levels. There is a program that converts PSP colormaps (.pal) to JK colormaps. It's called Chomper, and you should be able to find it at www.code-alliance.com . PSP is at www.jasc.com , its a paint program like Photoshop (not quite as good).

[http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif] Don't do it Thrawn82.

Using textures (or anything else) from another game in JK is illegal.

OK - try chopping up that last strung together statement into actual sentences. It gets really confusing.

If you are making a 16 bit saber the cmp doesn't matter. That's the whole thing about 16 bit mats, you don't have to bother with colormaps because you aren't limited to 256 colors like in the old 8 bit mats.

I made a 16bit mat and put it in as my saberblue1 and 0. When i play it ingame, i get colormap problems and the textures are pink. They are not what it is supposed to be.

Do you have a computer and video card that will support 16 bit mats?

yes my computer and video card are good. Well it can run unreal tournament with no problem at 640x480 resolution. You dont need colormaps if you are using 16 bit images?

Correct. Colormaps are not needed with 16 bit mats.

I don't know what the specs for UT are, but that doesn't really have anything to do with running 16 bit mats in JK. You have to have a 3d video card to use 16 bit mats with JK and even then some older video cards won't do it. Your best bet is to download a level that uses 16 bit mats and see if it works right. I would suggest Rehtmann's Continuing Adventures of Mara Jade for the experiment because I know it uses 16 bit mats and its just an all around cool sp level.

Thank you guys! I'll try that 16-bit MAT thing...

Of course, if someone is interested in making AT-AT Barge textures based on the existing CMPs and helping me, it would be most kind. I myself don't have enough artistic talents to accomplish that.
