Well, I've made some 3dos and their templates and have put them in my level. They appear fine in-game. No problems so far. However, I want the player to be able to pick them up. The 3dos are all different, but related, and they're not any kind of powerup (otherwise, I'd just given them the template of the powerup). How do I go about pulling this off?

The powerup parent should work. The powerups all have a cog attached in their template that causes them to give you stuff. You can change one of these cogs so it still plays a sound and tells you what you have picked up (or whatever you want) and remove the part that changes your inventory.

Mike's right. Use the _powerup parent, and simplay modify existing cogs for them. If these items don't replace existing powerups(i.e. additional powerups), you'll need to add a few bins to the items.dat file.
