Face Per Mesh Limit = 300?

I made a one mesh 3DO with a face count of 294. However, it does not work in the level, I was always convinced that 300 was the limit, is this not the case or could something else be wrong with the 3DO?

I've always heard 300, but I've never run into it. I know the 3do limit in a level seems to change from 450 to 460 from one person to another. Maybe this number isn't quite fixed too. Try turning it into 2 meshes. If that doesn't work it must be something else with the 3do.

I've tried turning it into two meshes, but it's a weapon 3DO, and they don't seem to work in two meshes.

OK, I got the weapon to work by simplifying the model, it now has 170 faces. It works fine as a pickup, and for both the player meshes. However, when I attach it to an enemy to use in-game, it appears as a cube. None of the meshes are over 300, and it has completely baffled me, anyone got any bright ideas?

Make sure you have all the files (3do, mat, etc) in the right places. A lot of times that box means JK can't find a file it needs for that 3do.

I don't think that's the problem, because the 3DO works without the weapon, so far, it's just a guy shooting out of his hand. If I add the weapon, the whole thing turns into a box. There's nothing wrong with the weapon 3DO, because it's taken from the player's weapon mesh which works fine in-game.

It seems unlikely since you got the weapon face count down so low, but could you have gone over the about 300 surfaces per mesh limit when you put it on the enemy?

Nope, because the mesh retained 170 face count, I didn't merge it with any other meshes. Is there a chance that there could be a limit of faces that a full 3DO can have? Another thing I tried was write a COG applying the "SetWeaponMesh" command to the enemy, where it would apply a seperate weapon 3DO to the character model (like JK does with player skins). Anyway, I have got this technique to work on only one occasion, in one of my very early levels. I've tried before to get it working in other levels, but the result persisted. I tried again with this problem, once again, it didn't work.
