So I'm being a little stupid and I know I've done this before, but what's the best way to create a five sided room (ie a pentagon) with equal sides etc.?

create a square, that should be about the size of the room u want, than cleave it

Have you tried the Perfect Polygons tutorial?

You'll have to do some math to make it a perfect pentagon.

Check out the tutorial as MikeC said. For a pentagon the inside angle of the sector would be 360 divided by 5 = 72 degrees. Then as the tutorial says you copy this sector four times and merge the five sectors together.

You could always "cheat" by using the plugin Freesector. However I highly advise against it until you have a foundation with creating perfect polygons first. As with everyone else, I suggest you check out the same Perfect Polygon tutorial.
