I am trying to make a level that has 'mountains' and a forest. How can I make good mountains that look realistic? All my attempts look like I used an axe on a piece of virtual wood...

Also, when I make the forest, is it better to have one huge 3do or many ones from each individual tree?

Thanks

You can only have 450 3dos in a level. Either using one or many tree 3dos, you'll probably end up with bad framerate.

If you just want mountains in the background, you might look into using a skybox.

NEVER try making a simple hill by using negative space editing. You'll get the worse framerate possible!!! I thought it looked cool, then i moved and the framerate said 5 or 7! ouch!!!!!!

How do you make mountains without negative space editing? It shouldn't be a problem if you cleave effeciently. Using a 3do would be much worse. I need to be able to walk on this thing.

If you have a copy of the 3do's sector model, and copy that into your level, will it help framerates at all?

thx

Hell no. That would give you overlapping sectors and that just wouldn't work.

Weather or not you get bad framerate from doing hills by cleaving and deleting really depends on how you do it. Careful planning to minimize the number of visible sectors/surfaces are a must.
