I was just wondering.. being an unproductive member of the JK e-community for quite a long while now.. I check back every now and then on the new levels released here at Massassi... Every time I check the new levels, I read the reviews and look at the screenshots and all. My question is, why is it that 75%, if not more, of the levels released are grossly over lighted? I mean, I looked at some levels that are boxy, some that are exquisite in their architecture, some that liw in between.. Yet, good lighting is rarely found in JK levels. I know from experience that lighting a level for JK can be quite a pain in the weewee, cause it more often than not come out with ugly 'moving shadows' on the walls, but still... IMHO, good lighting is what gives a level its atmosphere, it is what makes a level's textures not too repetitive.

I was just wondering...

You answered your own question. Lighting is a pain in the you know what. It's also a very trial and error procedure.

Another factor is that how bright/dark areas are can also depend heavily on what computer they are played on.

The main problem in my opinion is that people have difficulty understanding vertex lighting engines.
The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.
