Catwalks

Hi. I'm new to the map-making part of Jedi Knight but I have been playing this great game for some time.

I have the programs that I need for making maps. I also am using the great tutorials that are on Massassi.com! I have now successfully built doors, a conveyor belt, lots of items, different sized rooms, and now I'm trying my luck with Catwalks (I know that for some of you advanced people, these accomplishments may not be that big for you, but they are for me!).

But I am having trouble with making the catwalks. As you can (hopefully) see in the picture below, when you step on the catwalk, half of the leg goes beneath the top of the catwalk, and you cannot jump, just move around like you are on ice. I don't know why this is happening. I am using the cat-walk tutorial that is on Massassi.com by SL_Ric_Olie. I am following each step as close as possible.

Can someone help me? I really want to have cat-walks in my levels. Thanks.

I think your problem is that the top of your catwalk, the part you walk on, is not flagged as floor. go into 3D prieview click on the part of the catwalk that should be walkable, bring up the item editor and change the surface flag to 5. that should do it.

YES! It worked! Thank you very much!

I think I was following the tutorial TOO closely, and didn't catch the mistake. You should delete the catwalk part FIRST before you change the flags. I was changing the flags first, then deleting it.

Someone should go tell SL_Ric_Olie to go fix that because there might be other people who are having the same problem, and all because of the mistake in the tutorial.

Thanks again!

That's right. When you delete or cleave sectors it sometimes changes surface flags so you need to check that. It will also affect lighting since it deletes or creates vertices.
