Here's some help from a fellow newbie!

First, you need to make a name for your level. I'm just going to use the name TestLevel.

So, once you have a name, make a folder in your JED directory called PROJECTS. Then, create a folder that has the same name as your level. (This folder making is more for organization, but you still need to do it.)

Once your done making the folders, you go to the File menu in JED and click on 'Save As...' near the top of the list. A screen will pop up. Now, go into your project folder that has the same name as your level.

(example= C:\JED\Projects\TestLevel\ )

When you are in your folder, change the 'Untitled.jed' in the File Name field.

(example = TestLevel.jed )

Now click save. This will save your Jed file, which you open when you load up Jed. You can only edit your level using this file in Jed.

There are two options:

Option 1:
If your level is unfinished, but you still want to test it out, go to the File menu again and click on 'Save JKL and Test'. This will save the JKL (a file used by the game I think) and then it will load up JediKnight. When JediKnight loads up, choose your player, and go to Single Player. Then click debug, and click on 'Ok' twice. This will load your level so you can play it.

Option 2:
If you are done making your level and you want to release it to the public, then go to the TOOLS menu. Then open up the Episode Editor and fill it out with your Level name, Episode name, description of level, and change the episode type if you want it to be Multiplayer. When you have done this, click on 'Update' and then 'Save'. When that's done, go to the File menu and click on 'Save JKL and GOB'. This will save you JKL and bring up another save screen. Click on save and this will save your level to the game's Episode folder.

(Example= C:\JediKnight\Episode )

Now whenever you load up your JK Game, then you can choose your level (as long as you leave your GOB in that folder). Also, you can distribute the GOB and have people play your level!

Hope that helped!

One detail to remember is that your level file and any mat or 3DO files, etc., can not have spaces in the file name. This was my problem when I started out. So the names "testlevel.jed" or "test_level.jed" are fine but not "test level.jed"
